A’Africa is proud to be part of Bob van Reenen stadium revival
A’Africa West Rand joined Afriforum and fellow community members recently to revive the historic Bob van Reenen stadium in Krugersdorp.
A’Africa joined about 250 people to tackle the major clean-up of the stadium which has stood abandoned for almost two decades.
With this initiative, Afiforum wants to lure investors in an attempt to eventually take over the management of the iconic stadium and reopen it to the public on a proposed Public Private Partnership basis.
Over the weekends of 8 and 15 January, volunteers cut grass and dug out reeds, cleaned the athletics track and carted away about 100 tons of rubbish. This was a massive task for a small group of volunteers from the local community.
The clean-up comes after Afriforum has been in discussions with Mogale Local Municipality to reopen the stadium. The stadium has been seriously vandalised and neglected during the past years.
A’Africa is proud to be a part of this project to restore a once iconic landmark in Krugersdorp that will uplift the entire community.
